Uganda Christian University is one of the largest private universities in the country, with over 11,000 students in 5 campuses nationwide. The main campus with over 8,000 students is located near the town of Mukono, about 25km from Kampala. Other campuses are: in Kabale, the constituent Bishop Barham University College, Mbale Campus in Eastern Uganda, and Arua Campus in Northern Uganda.
From Uganda Christian University Website: UCU was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College was promoted to university status in 1997, an institution that had trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history, from 1913-1997. Uganda Christian University is dedicated to preparing the student for a thoughtful and productive life of Christian faith and service in his/her profession and place in society, this through teaching, scholarship, spiritual formation, personal development, service, and social involvement.
UCU aims to provide complete education for a complete person, in other words a holistic approach that integrates physical, social, emotional, and spiritual growth with traditional academics. All students are therefore required to take foundation studies in theology, ethics, world views, mathematics, research and writing, health and wholeness, and basic computing.
The goal at Uganda Christian University is to facilitate learning, not simply to help students pass exams, and as such, UCU limits the number of courses a student may take in a semester, to promote depth of study. Most programs emphasize practical experiences.
In sports, UCU boasts of nationally ranked teams, among them men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and football. Students can join any of 60+ active clubs on campus, many of which participate in community service outside the University.
Fees:Undergraduate degree and post-graduate diploma courses from UGX 890,000 to UGX 1,600,000, Masters degrees from UGX 996,000 to UGX 2,000,000. Fees for international students are about 1.68 times higher for all courses (in Uganda Shillings).
Accommodation:The university provides shared accommodation for over 2,000 students in its halls of residence and in university supervised hostels outside campus. All first year students are guaranteed accomodation in the university's halls. Affordable private hostel facilities are avialble within walking distance of the campus.
